Projects
Projects being rolled out by Dunhill Rural Enterprises Ltd in the Dunhill area & on 9.5 acres of new land in the Dunhill Ecopark include integrated & complimentary actions:
- 2.5 acre Constructed Wetlands
The local community is recognised nationally and internationally for successfully pioneering Integrated Constructed Wetland [ICW] systems for natural and environmental handling of agricultural and residential effluent. The system is now also being piloted very successfully in the enterprise park for handling effluent of the businesses.
- New Enterprise Buildings
An extra 7 000m2 [±70 000sq ft] for services and light industry enterprise development.
- International Inventors Village
Establishment of 12 units providing creative premises and support in a rural “Quality of Life” setting, which stimulates innovative business ideas producing new products, processes, services, and systems.
- Eco-Lodge
Community owned accommodation. To promote the full range of activities we aim to provide community-owned accommodation for individuals and groups such as schools, exchange visitors, international and local project research collaboration & innovation partners, learning groups, activity tourists etc coming to the community and area. This development is in line with the Waterford Leader Plan for 2007-2013 period of supporting the development of four community hostels through the county. This network of four hostels in different locations throughout the county is geared to supporting community tourism and walking/cycling movement between them. From sea to mountain and from Dunmore to Lismore.
- Environmental Care Centre & Sensory Gardens demonstrating cutting edge environmental best practices; motivating sustainable living by generating positive ideas and offering practical solutions to everyday living; creating a dynamic learning environment through the provision of an interactive & fun learning experience with education packages for schools primary, secondary and third level. This will contain a transformative educational experience addressing modern global concerns; stimulating and supporting new environmental.
- Heritage & Tourism
Dunhill Ecopark will establish a Rural Tourism Office called “Grass Roots Tourism Ltd” specialising in Learning Vacations. The vision is to engage Local Businesses along with Community and Voluntary Organisations to develop learning vacation programmes offering visitors 1 day, 3 day and/or 5 day Activity/Learning Programmes. One of the target markets is the International Irish Diaspora Communities. Lists of Sub-Projects include:
- Dunhill Castle Project
- Recreational Woodlands
- Conservation of Ruined Castle Walls and Graveyard
- Erection of a Viewing Platform enveloping the Castle
- Heritage and Cultural Trails
- Newfoundland Emigrant Walking Trail in County Waterford
- A Southeast Emigrant Trail; Genealogy and Geography
- A Music Trail
- The Dunhill Castle and Anne Valley Wetlands Trail
- Vernacular Architectual Trail
- Megalithic Trail
- Housing facility primarily being housing for the elderly with day care and respite facilities, and an adjacent development of private and affordable housing.
- Knockaderry Lake
Development of a public walking trail around Knockaderry Lake in partnership with Waterford County Council, and the existing on-site fishing club (including information boards, car-parking facilities, picnic areas, safety notices, promotional literature etc), which also will integrate with the other tourism ways.
- Car Parking
Existing ample parking is to be complemented by further parking to adequately cater for expanded occupier and visitor numbers.
