Eco-Build Principles
The physical structure of Ecolution is being designed with the intention of manifesting certain principles in the conception and execution of the building process, including:
- People-centered design
- Thoughtful integration with the surroundings
- Generating own energy
- Reflecting local culture and values
- A structure that is innovative and inspirational
- Universal design
There are a number of key aspects to the design of ‘green buildings’:
- Cost-efficiency (a pre-requisite for sustainability)
- Conservation of energy and resources
- Ecological foundations and minimal site intervention
- Reduction of infrastructure; roads; pipes; lighting…
- Elimination /reduction of toxic materials and processes
- Use of local renewable/biological materials and energy
- Use of safe, recycled materials and products
- Vapour-diffusive – air and wind-tight construction
- Super insulation and ecological thermal energy storage
- Use of natural (passive) heating and cooling
- Use of natural lighting (for health and energy)
- Minimisation of electro-magnetic fields
- Long life – low maintenance, robust design
- Adaptable, inclusive (access for all) design
- Green surroundings – design with nature and climate
