Dunhill Ecopark initially was started as Dunhill Rural Enterprise Park to serve the local area, Copper Coast zone and wider Waterford area with space and a supportive environment for business to develop. The first space became available in 2002. Expansion since then equips us with some 35 000 square feet [roughly 3500 square metres of space]. The enterprise park has proved highly attractive and successful, with some 26 businesses and around 85 people working in the park by 2007/8.

In order to support long term sustainability of the park and the business of its occupants, an Integrated Constructed Wetlands has recently been installed for environmentally sustainable treatment of fluid waste from businesses established in the park.

On the back of this a decision was taken to transform the park through consistent initiatives aimed at changing from a standard enterprise park into an ecologically driven park with the aim of being environmentally sustainable in the long term, continually striving to help business in the park improve their competitiveness through reducing waste and energy charges and gaining greater customer acceptance through their association with the environmental actions of the Ecopark.

Growing interest from businesses seeking space in the park has led to a decision to build a new 3rd building of 20 000 square feet [roughly 2000 square metres].

Further to this plans are already being drawn up to include 3 additional buildings intended for even greater enterprise space, laboratory space, possibly culinary businesses, and professional services. These buildings will all be designed and operated to achieve environmental standards and incrementally improve and advance towards setting an example for an environmentally responsible and successful Ecopark On completion of all these the Ecopark will reach a total of around 10 000 square metres [100 000 square feet] of office and light industrial space.

Plans are also well advanced for construction and roll out of 3 unique facilities to support businesses in the park, namely: An Inventors Village to stimulate and support enterprise and innovation. Ecolution - an environment centre promoting environmental awareness in the community both youth and adult through experiential learning and supporting business in being more environmentally effective and competitive. An Eco-Lodge which will be a community owned accommodation facility to support growth of tourism and tourism related businesses in the area, which also will provide space for an organic restaurant, an amphithatre to support development of art-enterprise in th park and vicinity.
